Noah's Sons

Noah’s Sons – Even the Faithful Sometimes Fall

Today’s Bible study lesson from Genesis 9 is very short and to the point. As you’ll soon see, there’s more to the story of Noah and his ark after the great flood has come and gone.

Yes, Noah pulls a fool stunt and acts disgusting after all the faith he showed when God made a rainbow covenant with him.

But this is an episode which shows that God works with all sorts of people – and yes, he works with sinners like you and me.

After the Great Flood with Noah’s Sons

Then Noah began farming and planted a vineyard.

He drank of the wine and became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent.

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it upon both their shoulders and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were turned away, so that they did not see their father’s nakedness.

When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest son had done to him.
So he said,

“Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brothers.” – Genesis 9:20-26 NASB

Noah Curses Canaan

After all he had been through; after all the faith he had showed in God, Noah got drunk!

This is almost the equivalent of discovering that Billy Graham was hooked on drugs!

There is a possibility that this story is presented to let us know what has been said in Romans 3:23 ..

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

No One Is Immune from Sin — Not Even Noah!

Noah's Sons after the floodNoah was human, just like the rest of us.

Yes,  we are Christians. But, we all “fall short” and stumble, even if we have great faith in God.

This doesn’t excuse Noah’s behavior but at least helps to explain it.

Let’s not expect pastors and people of faith to “go to bed with their suits on” as some people think.

Instead, recognize that everyone has shortcomings.

So, how do we make it to heaven with these flaws?

Simply, the only way is through Christ’s sacrifice . Through His great love for us, we  are forgiven.

Love in Christ
