Satan – No Power Over Christ

Satan has no power over Christ
Satan has no power over Christ

Follow Mark 3 which talks about who we will follow, Christ or Satan. And, it tells about the unforgivable sin. You’ll find the statement of “a house divided against itself..” in this chapter.  But, rest assured – Satan has no power over Christ.

And finally, we have to make a decision. This Bible study portion helps us make the right one.

Religious Leaders Accuse Jesus of Being Under Satan’s Power in Mark 3

The religious leaders never wavered from trying to catch Jesus in a situation.

This illustrates yet another time they thought they had caught Him in blasphemy. But, Christ cannot be “caught” because He is sinless.

Satan Has No Power Over Christ

“And He came home, and the crowd gathered again, to such an extent that they could not even eat a meal.

When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.”

The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan?

If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!

But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.

“Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” – Mark 3:20-30 NASB

This is the Word of the Lord … It is meant to change the way that we think, and the way that we live.

The Scripture reading above gives one of many accusations against Jesus, initiated by religious leaders

Jesus’ friends and family came to His aid because they thought that He had completely lost his mind.

Even members of His immediate family did not comprehend the meanings behind Jesus’ ministry. And, they had no idea of what was to come.

Satan’s Power – Only by Permission from God

Yes, Satan works in this world but only by the permission of God. And remember, no matter how many deceptions Satan tosses our way, God is still in control.

Jesus remains the absolute power over Satan Why? Because He is God and Satan will one day admit what followers of Christ already know; his ultimate defeat! The authority of Christ remains unchanged – the rest is just Satan’s deception.

What about the Unpardonable Sin?

Verse 29 presents us with a disturbing sentence. The passage speaks about the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Yes, this is known as an unforgivable sin. The only way to lose God’s forgiveness is to deny Him and not accept His mighty blessing.

In today’s world, some sins are only called an individual “lifestyle.” And, many of today’s psychologists say; since there is no God, there is no sin.

Satan has no power over Christ
Satan has no power over Christ

But, if it’s written in God’s Word as sin, we have no right to call it anything else. It’s dangerous to deny that sin is sin – no matter how “small” we believe it to be. This becomes unforgivable to God.

With that said, the Scripture in this passage from Mark basically means giving credit to Satan for the things that God has done.

So, if a person carries an attitude of total unbelief – with no concern for repentance, this is unforgivable. The only true unforgivable sin is to reject God and the Holy Spirit. To reject Christ is to accept sin – and Satan.

According to Christ, we can live for one or the other; but not both!

As Christians, we need to constantly evaluate our lives and live for Christ who can save us, not for Satan who cannot.
