God Turns Aaron's Staff into a Snake

God Turns Aaron’s Staff into a Snake

Exodus 6: 26-27, 7:1-13 – Study Lessons from the Bible

God Turns Aaron's Staff into a SnakeThe Exodus is taking shape. God sends Moses and Aaron back to Pharaoh and works the miracle of turning the staff into a snake.

Should we rely on miracles in order to believe?

Even with miracles, the Egyptian didn’t pay attention.

Unfortunately, Pharaoh only focuses on the serpent miracle instead of listening to the message Moses and Aaron brought.

Bible studies from the Book of Exodus show how to believe without witnessing miracles.

The Staff into a Snake Says to Focus on God – Not Miracles

So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.

For each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

Yet Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said. – Exodus 7:10-13 NASB

Relying on Miracles

Taking God’s power to Pharaoh should have been enough.

But, although Moses was made “like God to Pharaoh“, meaning that Pharaoh would give him respect, the turning of the staff into a snake did not seem to shake him. So, the people remained in bondage.

Miracles and Believing

Wouldn’t it be nice if everything in our spiritual life were as simple as seeing a miracle or sign?

Well, it doesn’t always work that way.

Yes, miracles can help us when it comes to believing but they can be dangerous if we rely solely on them for our faith.

Jesus says in John 20:29:

“Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” – NASB

We have to be careful when looking for signs. Satan can mimic some of God’s work to cause us to think his way.

Again, Focus on God – Not Miracles

God does work miracles in certain circumstances but, He works them in His will and in His way. Let’s listen within.

Pharaoh put all his attention on the miracle instead of listening to the message from God – bringing even more pain and suffering to his people.
