Thought Provoking Faith Comments By Dr. Byrns

Those who don't
know Him and even some people who do all ask the
same question of who is Jesus Christ. The Pharisees
asked and Scripture tells us the answer in this
lesson.

Matthew 22:41-46
Who is the
Christ? Jesus Asks the
Pharisees
Matthew
41 Now
while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus
asked them a question:
42 "What do you
think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said
to Him, "The son of David."
43 He said to them,
"Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,'
saying,
44 'THE LORD SAID
TO MY LORD,
"SIT AT MY RIGHT
HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR
ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET"'?
45 "If David then
calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his son?"
46 No one was able
to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that
day on to ask Him another question.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.
Commentary

Who's Son is
Christ?
- The Pharisees were up to
their old tricks, as were the Sadducees and
Herodians, asking Jesus questions with
underlying traps in mind.
-
- A side note here is that
the three mentioned above were never successful
and were more likely to be caught themselves by
His answers. This frustration ultimately led to
plots to kill Jesus as they were not able to
discredit him.
-
- Like so many times
before, Jesus answered questions with questions.
The Pharisees did not realize how close they
were to the Christ as they stumbled to answer
his question of who's son Christ
was.
-
- These scholars knew that
the Christ would be a descendent of David but
did not know that He would be God in flesh.
-
- Using Psalm 1:10 to
reinforce his answer, Jesus presented that the
Messiah would be over David; not the other way
around.
-
- The question to us today
is, what do we believe. If we believe that Jesus
is the Son of God and our Savior then the rest
of these questions and answers will fall into
place.
-
- Do you know who Jesus
is?
