Matthew 16:1-4
Should We
Ask for a Sign from the Sky?
16:1
The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing
Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from
heaven.
2 But He replied to them,
"When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair
weather, for the sky is red.'
3 "And in the morning,
'There will be a storm today, for the sky is red
and threatening.' Do you know how to discern the
appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs
of the times?
4 "An evil and adulterous
generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not
be given it, except the sign of Jonah." And He left
them and went away.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.

Are We Looking for a
Miracle or Sign?
First, covering a little
history, Jesus had two adversaries who disagreed on
many points of Scripture except their hatred for
Christ. When they joined forces to trick Jesus, He
knew exactly what they were doing and also knew
they would not believe no matter what miracle from
the sky He performed.
With that said, what about
people nowadays? Even with all the evidence in the
Bible from the miracles of Moses to Jonah
(mentioned above and also alluding to the
resurrection after three days) to the New Testament
healings and wonders, we still sometimes look for
"signs from the sky" to believe.
We are a skeptical people and
have heard all our lives that "Seeing is
believing."
But, faith is based on what
we know in our hearts about Christ as Savior and
our relationship with God. We pray for miracles and
God grants them, when it is within His will and for
the best of His plan for our lives.
Take a moment and think about
things that have happened since you became a
Christian. Some are good and some are not so good
but that's the way life works.
The difference is that we
have Christ as our friend and comforter when the
bad situations come our way. What more of a sign
could we ask for?
I'll sum up with a quote from
Christ ...
Read John 20-29 "Blessed
are those who have not seen and yet have
believed."
God has nothing to prove. We
just need to have faith and believe without seeing.
Then, we'll be blessed.
