Matthew 11:20-30
Come to
Jesus and Find Rest For the
Soul
11:20
Then He began to denounce the cities in which most
of His miracles were done, because they did not
repent.
21 "Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had
occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you,
they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and
ashes.
22 "Nevertheless I say to
you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon
in the day of judgment than for you.
23 "And you, Capernaum,
will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will
descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred
in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have
remained to this day.
24 "Nevertheless I say to
you that it will be more tolerable for the land of
Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."
Come to Me
25 At that time Jesus
said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and
earth, that You have hidden these things from the
wise and intelligent and have revealed them to
infants.
26 "Yes, Father, for this
way was well-pleasing in Your sight.
27 "All things have been
handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows
the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the
Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son
wills to reveal Him.
28 "Come to Me, all who
are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you
rest.
29 "Take My yoke upon you
and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in
heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
30 "For My yoke is easy
and My burden is light."
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.

"... My Burden is
Light."
What is a yoke?
Most people know that a yoke
is a piece of wooden equipment used for oxen to
pull a plow or other related farming implements. We
wear a yoke when we ignore the chance to repent of
sin and come to know Jesus as our personal savior.
He is the only one who can take on the yoke for us;
and he did!
What about
burdens?
I looked up the word burden
and found several definitions. The ones I'm listing
here are from answers.com which state ..
"- Something that is
carried.
- Something that is
emotionally difficult to bear.
- A source of great worry
or stress; weight: The burden of economic sacrifice
rests on the workers of the plant.
- A responsibility or
duty: The burden of organizing the campaign fell to
me."
And then, there's the Yiddish
proverb; "God gave burdens, also
shoulders."
What Burdens Do We
Carry?
As humans, we carry burdens
such as past and present sins; some carry burdens
of oppression here and abroad; or maybe we are just
tired from looking for God. I'm sure you can fill
in the blanks of other burdens with your personal
situation.
If we choose to follow
Christ, he will free us from these loads. He
promises us rest for the soul in the form of love,
compassion and peace. Electing to start a real
relationship with God will not take away our labor
but it will make it more bearable and turn it into
something positive.
I've heard many stories of
how God saw people through terrible situations such
as cancer and other dread diseases. I pray that
these things don't happen but I'm also happy that I
have Jesus to lean on when they do.
We will have bumps in the
road of life but Christ will help to smooth out the
road -- If you ask and believe.

Jesus Teaches
About The Kingdom And Eases The Doubt Of John The
Baptist.
John the
Baptist preached repentance and the coming of the
Messiah but was later thrown into prison. This
shook him considerably and he began to wonder if
Jesus really was the Savior. What is our lesson
from this passage?
