there were fourteen generations
in all from Abraham to David,
fourteen from David to the exile
to Babylon, and fourteen from the
exile to the
Christ.

just an introduction to the
Book of Matthew showing the
genealogy of Christ from
Abraham to his
birth.

heratage and lines were very
important to the Jewish people
so Matthew was most likely
writing these verses for
them.
