The Easter story
takes many turns and events happen on a timeline.
In this portion Jesus predicts His death for the
third time. The disciples do not fully understand
this until the resurrection.

Matthew 20:17-19
Jesus
Tells about His Death the Third
Time
17 Now as
Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve
disciples aside and said to them, 18 "We are going
up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be
betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of
the law.
They will condemn him to
death 19 and will turn him over to the Gentiles to
be mocked and flogged and crucified.
On the third day he will
be raised to life!"
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we
live.

For the Third
Time Jesus Predicts His Death and
Resurrection
- We can look back at the
Easter story and discern exactly how it will
turn out. We've heard this story since we were
children so there is no doubt that Christ will
be crucified, he will die and on the third day
he will rise again.
-
- But, Jesus told this
story three times before it
happened!
-
- We have the knowledge
that hindsight gives us but the disciples did
not understand that Christ had to die in order
to bring others to his kingdom in
heaven.
-
- So, the disciples argued
who would be the greatest and who would receive
the most power in Christ's kingdom not
suspecting that their reward would not be of
this earth.
-
- After the death and
resurrection of Jesus, the disciples would come
to understand what we already know ... Christ
lived -- Christ died -- Christ rose again on the
third day in order to take on the sins of
people, including you and I.

20:1-16 - Jesus Talks about the Workers Who are
Paid Equally
-
The New
Testament reveals many secrets about how to get to
heaven. Christ explains about the kingdom of heaven
in this parable about the workers hired by the
landowner. Should everyone do equal work for equal
pay? Jesus says this ethic does not apply to heaven
seekers.
