Matthew 20:29-34
The
Miracle of the Blind Beggar
20:29
As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd
followed Him.
30 And two blind men
sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing
by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of
David!"
31 The crowd sternly told
them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more,
"Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32 And Jesus stopped and
called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do
for you?"
33 They said to Him,
"Lord, we want our eyes to be opened."
34 Moved with compassion,
Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they
regained their sight and followed Him.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.

"I Once Was Blind, But
Now I See"
-
One important factor in this
Scripture reading is that Jesus was facing imminent
death on the cross in Jerusalem. But, that didn't
stop Him from having compassion for the blind men.
The miracle of healing the beggars is but a
pittance when compared to the miracle of dying for
our sins.
The passage is short but
summarizes much of why Christ came to earth. Once
healed, the beggars' eyes were opened and they
followed Jesus. Not only did He cure their physical
disability but He helped them to see the truth that
He was the "Son of David" who they knew was the
Messiah.
The religious leaders could
not see through the miracles and remained "blind"
to the truth which Jesus desperately tried to show
them. They were so concerned with the law that they
missed the joy of following the Christ.
We are offered the same
opportunity to see Jesus for who He really is, our
Lord and Savior. He offers us "healing" of our
souls and all we have to give Him is our belief
that He died for us, rose on the third day and
saved us from sin.
Just like my favorite hymn
says; "I once was blind, but now I see".
Thank you Lord for saving me. Amen

Talks about Serving
Others
- In our efforts to follow Christ we sometimes
forget our main objective. Sure, we have to do the
Baptist or other Protestant church things like
attending regularly and maybe singing in the choir
but what did Jesus tell us to do? Serve other
people. This is a part of our commission from
Him.
Verses about Jesus opening the eyes of the
blind beggars are from the New American Standard
Bible.
