Mark
4:30-34
Jesus
Tells the Parable of the Mustard
Seed
4:30
"Again he said, 'What shall we
say the kingdom of God is like,
or what parable shall we use to
describe it?
-
- 31
It is like a mustard seed,
which is the smallest seed you
plant in the
ground.
-
- 32
Yet when planted, it grows and
becomes the largest of all
garden plants, with such big
branches that the birds of the
air can perch in its
shade.'
-
- 33
With many similar parables
Jesus spoke the word to them,
as much as they could
understand.
-
34
He did not say anything to them
without using a parable. But when
he was alone with his own
disciples, he explained
everything."
-
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It
is meant to change the way
that we think, and the way
that we live.
Commentary

The
Kingdom of Heaven is like a
mustard seed
- Christianity
started out with a very small
following which is why it is
compared to the small size of
the mustard seed.
-
- But,
Jesus knew that, just as the
mustard seed would become the
largest of all garden plants,
His following would increase
and Christianity would someday
become worldwide with millions
of believers.
-
- We
sometimes feel isolated in our
Christian beliefs but remember
that there are believers in
Christ stretched to every
corner of the earth so we are
not alone.
-
- If we
can just keep that tiny "faith
of the mustard seed", we can
belong to the larger group who
can accomplish awesome feats
for God's kingdom and bring
others to Christ.
