Mark
15:1
The
Council of Religious Leaders
Condemns
Jesus
15:1
Very early in the morning, the
chief priests, with the elders,
the teachers of the law and the
whole Sanhedrin, reached a
decision.
They
bound Jesus, led him away and
handed him over to
Pilate.

The
Condemnation
Christ
The Jewish
leaders handed Jesus over to the
Romans (Pilate) because they had
no authority to impose the death
penalty.
They had no
desire for a long prison
sentence; they wanted Jesus
dead.
An
interesting point brought out by
the L.A. Study Bible is that the
religious leaders wanted Jesus to
die on the cross because,
according to Deuteronomy 21:23,
dying on the cross brought a
curse from God.
This is
their way of making sure the
followers and disciples of Christ
believe that Jesus is a cursed
man instead of
blessed.
One thing
the Jewish leaders did not count
on was that God does not always
do what people expect Him to
do.
P.S. I had
to look this verse up so thought
I would share it with
you.
Deuteronomy
21:23 "you must not leave his
body on the tree overnight.
Be sure to
bury him that same day, because
anyone who is hung on a tree is
under God's curse.
You must
not desecrate the land the LORD
your God is giving you as an
inheritance."
