Jesus Describes
His True Family
Bible Study Lesson from Mark
3:31-35
3:31
"Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing
outside, they sent someone to call
him.
-
- 32
A crowd was sitting around him and they told
him, 'Your mother and brothers are outside
looking for you.'
-
- 33
'Who are my mother and my brothers?' he
asked.
-
- 34
Then he looked at those seated in a circle
around him and said, 'Here are my mother and my
brothers!
-
35
Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister
and mother.'"
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way we think, and the way we live.
Commentary
by Bob Pardue
Who is the
family of Jesus?
Is This a
Riddle?
Jesus used virtually every
incident as a teaching opportunity. At first
glance, one would assume that Jesus cared little
for his physical family and only thought of his
followers.
This couldn't be further from
the truth. In reality,
Jesus cared deeply for his mother and family but he
also cared just as deeply for those who followed
"God's will".
What does this mean to
us as Christians?
Jesus showed equal love to
everyone then and He still shows that same love
today to anyone who chooses to follow
Him.
Challenge to
Churches
We, as a church, can show
love and create relationships that many people
cannot find in today's impersonal world. Let's
remember who our family is and treat them as such.
