Mark 15:21-24
Jesus is
Led Away to be Crucified
15:21
A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of
Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in
from the country, and they forced him to carry the
cross.
22
They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha
(which means The Place of the Skull).
23
Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he
did not take it.
24
And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes,
they cast lots to see what each would
get.

This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to
change the way that we think, and the way that
we live.

The Crucifixion of Christ
and the Casting of Lots
The casting of lots was
similar to gambling; such as playing cards,
throwing dice, etc.
This was one of the rights of
Roman soldiers; to take the belongings of people
who were being crucified so they gambled over
Jesus' clothing to see who would get it.
It is not really mentioned
here but I wonder if maybe the purple robe they had
placed on Jesus while mocking him was among these
clothes.
Purple garments were an
extravagance and were fairly expensive. They were
worn mostly by nobles and kings so the soldiers
would be very interested in owning this
robe.
As they gambled over this
dying man's possessions little did they realize
they were sitting at the feet of God. They never
knew who Jesus really was.
There are many in our day and
time who do not know who Christ is. We should take
every opportunity to tell them about Jesus and what
he did for us ... and, more importantly, what he
can do for them. There is no greater gift than
showing that Christ offers eternal life through his
amazing grace.
P.S. We will continue the
study of Passion Week within the next few passages
and hope that you will reflect upon what is
happening to Jesus during the Easter
season.
