Mark 10:46-52
Jesus
Heals the Blind Beggar
10:46
Then they came to Jericho And as He was leaving
Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a
blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus,
was sitting by the road.
47 When he heard that it
was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and
say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
48 Many were sternly
telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all
the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
49 And Jesus stopped and
said, "Call him here." So they called the blind
man, saying to him, "Take courage, stand up! He is
calling for you."
50 Throwing aside his
cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
51 And answering him,
Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to
regain my sight!"
52 And Jesus said to him,
"Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he
regained his sight and began following Him on the
road.

This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to
change the way that we think, and the way that
we live.

Recognizing
God
The Beggar
Bartimaeus was a beggar
because of a physical ailment; blindness. He could
not work at any of the jobs available and there
were no disability checks or welfare although God
said to take care of the needy in Leviticus
25:35-38.
However, other chapters of
the Bible tell us that people of this time period
believed that God punished sin with physical
sickness or disabilities so Bartimaeus was doomed
to beg in the streets - or starve.
Jesus - "Son of
David"
Jesus was known by many
people as the "Son of David" because the Scripture
plainly stated that the Messiah would descend from
this line. So, when the beggar called Christ by
this name he was recognizing Jesus as the Son of
God.
Bartimaeus knew who Jesus was
and his faith allowed him to be healed of his
blindness. When we recognize who Christ is and what
He did, we too can be saved. We may not be
instantly healed from a sickness or affliction but
we are offered the gift of eternal life just for
believing and asking.
So, this message goes out to
all of us who "once were blind".
