Jesus Heals the Paralyzed
Man
Bible Study Lesson from Luke
5:17-26
5:17 One day
He was teaching; and there were some Pharisees and
teachers of the law sitting there, who had come
from every village of Galilee and Judea and from
Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present
for Him to perform healing.
18 And some men were
carrying on a bed a man who was paralyzed; and they
were trying to bring him in and to set him down in
front of Him.
19 But not finding any way
to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up
on the roof and let him down through the tiles with
his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in
front of Jesus.
20 Seeing their faith, He
said, Friend, your sins are forgiven
you.
21 The scribes and the
Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is
this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive
sins, but God alone?
22 But Jesus, aware of
their reasonings, answered and said to them,
Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
23 Which is easier, to
say, Your sins have been forgiven you,
or to say, Get up and walk?
24 But, so that you may
know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins,He said to the
paralyticI say to you, get up, and pick
up your stretcher and go home.
25 Immediately he got up
before them, and picked up what he had been lying
on, and went home glorifying God.
26 They were all struck
with astonishment and began glorifying God; and
they were filled with fear, saying, We have
seen remarkable things today.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way we think, and the way we live.

Jesus Heals the Paralyzed
Man
A Story of
Faith
Have you ever had a sick or
hurting friend / family member and felt helpless in
that there was nothing you could do for him or her?
I feel we've all been in that situation at one or
more times in our lives. And, when in this
circumstance, we would do almost anything if we
could resolve the problem.
This is the precise situation
in which the four men found themselves. The
paralytic was their friend. They knew of Jesus'
healing power and went to the extreme by cutting a
hole in the roof and lowering the man down to where
Christ was located.
Who's Faith Was
It?
Many would say it was the
faith of the paralyzed man that caused the healing.
But, in reality, Jesus was moved by the faith of
the four men who brought their friend to him - a
faith that initiated response; and
healing.
Our Faith and
Actions
We may not always realize it
but the faith we have has an effect on other people
just as happened with the four men. We cannot "make
someone a Christian" but we can pray and show God's
love for us with our actions.
At certain times in our lives
(maybe today) God will put someone in front of us
who desperately needs the hope and experience that
only Christ can give. If we look for opportunity,
someone else could receive the love of
Christ.
And remember, "gentle"
is the key to introducing Jesus to a hurting
world.
