God's Covenant
with Noah
Bible Study Lessons from
Genesis 7:1-5
In this lesson from Genesis
God instructs Noah to place the animals in the ark
and take his family inside to protect them from the
great flood about to come. He had made a promise or
covenant and was en route to keeping it.
The Great
Flood
7:1
The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you
and your whole family, because I have found you
righteous in this generation.
2 Take with you seven of
every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate,
and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and
its mate,
3 and also seven of every
kind of bird, male and female, to keep their
various kinds alive throughout the earth.
4 Seven days from now I
will send rain on the earth for forty days and
forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the
earth every living creature I have made."
5 And Noah did all that
the LORD commanded him.
This
is the Word of the Lord ..... It is meant to change
the way we think, and the way that we live.

God's Covenant
with Noah
What is a
Covenant?
The beginning verses of this
passage are about covenants. Put
simply, a covenant is a promise. God makes
covenants with many well-known people throughout
the Bible including David, Abraham and Moses to
name a few.
Our
Covenant
God also makes covenants with
us. He is our salvation just as He was with Noah
and the others. Isn't it fantastic that God has
made a promise to us that He will be with us and
help with our everyday situations as long as we
call on him for guidance?
Obedience
The second part of this
Scripture lesson portrays something that we may
hastily read over but could be the most important
sentence in the story of Noah. The
sentence I'm speaking of is the last one which says
that Noah did "all that the LORD commanded
him." You see, Noah obeyed God after hearing
the covenant God had made to him.
We are also asked to do
certain tasks for God with the talents He has given
us. I doubt that many of us have ever, or will
ever, be asked to do something as monumental as
building an ark but our job is just as important to
God as Noah's.
When God
Asks
What do we say when God asks
us to do something for Him? There are several
possible answers:
- Yes God, I will do as you
ask and start on it today
- Yes God, I will do as you
ask but will have to wait for the "right"
time
- Yes God, I would do as
you ask but I just don't have the talent for
that
- Yes God, I would do it
but just don't have the time or
money
- God, I can't do that!
It's too big a project for me
These are just a few of the
answers (some are excuses) I have used before. Did
you pick any of your answers to God's request
within these or do you have other answers of your
own?
