Ecclesiastes 6:11-12
Predicting
the Future
6:11
The more the words,
the less the meaning,
and how does that profit
anyone?
12
For who knows what is good for a man in life,
during the few and meaningless days he passes
through like a shadow?
Who can tell him what will
happen under the sun after he is gone?
This
is the Word of the Lord - It is meant to change the
way we think, and the way we live.

Can Nostradamus
Really Predict the Future?
Movies and Books and the
End of Time
The big craze these days is
all about fortune telling and predicting the future
just as in the movie 2012. Do you believe
it? The curiosity goes back much further than
this. To be certain, one
of the most sought after books that continues to be
on the best seller list is the book of predictions
by Nostradamus.
Nostradamus - Prophet or
Fantasy Novelist?
I enjoy watching the History
Channel
®
as do many others. It is a part of my enjoyment and
entertainment for the day to watch, among other
historical stories, the life of Nostradamus and his
predictions for the future written over 500 years
ago.
Now, I don't plan to get into
a debate about whether or not Nostradamus was on
the mark with some of his predictions but just to
let you know that many people believe in past and
present-day wizards and predictors. This allows
them to alleviate the responsibility to take
control of their own lives and relieves stress but
accomplishes little else.
The Palm
Readers
If you have ever done any
traveling, I am sure you've seen the fortune teller
and palm reading signs in front of houses promising
to tell you your future. And,
I have to admit, some of these fortune tellers are
pretty good at telling us what we want to hear. As
a psychology major in college I learned that all
people have certain traits that are similar and the
fortune teller picks up on these traits. They can
make you believe that they know all about
you.
The Only Fortune Teller I
Know
While fortune telling and
parlor tricks can be fun and entertaining, in
truth, only God knows what our future holds.
We are capable of making choices
in our lives but God controls our ultimate destiny.
We do not know for certain what our future on earth
holds.
The Future is
Certain
As Christians, we do know one
detail of our future is certain. We know where we
will be when this life has ended. Through
acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior,
we "should not perish, but have everlasting
life." (John
3:16)
Think of this life as a
stepping stone into the next, and the better life
Christ has to offer. When you live your life with
the end in mind, you will discover what is really
important and you won't have to worry so much about
what Nostradamus has to say. d:-)
