Ecclesiastes
5:8-11
The Love
of Riches ( Money )
5:8
If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and
justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at
such things; for one official is eyed by a higher
one, and over them both are others higher still.
9
The increase from the land is taken by all; the
king himself profits from the fields.
10
Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever
loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.
This too is meaningless.
11
As goods increase, so do those who consume them.
- And what benefit are
they to the owner except to feast his eyes on
them?
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to
change the way that we think, and the way that
we live.
Commentary

Are You
Satisfied with Your Income and
Possessions?
How Much is
Enough?
There is an old story about a
farmer who claimed that he wasn't greedy. He said
he didn't want all the land - just the land next to
his. This is Solomon's point when he says wealth is
never enough. The more money, stuff, and power
people have, the more they want.
"I Just Have to Get
It!"
We live in a materialistic
society. Just take a look at the cellphone industry
for instance. The "next level" is always coming on
the market and people just have to have it. Isn't
this ridiculous? Unless you are an international
business person, all you really need a cellphone
for is to make phone calls. I have a prepaid cell
phone and load up a few minutes when I travel and
that's enough for me. d:-)
Can Money Buy True
Happiness?
The point is, money can buy
temporary happiness but it can never buy true
contentment. Only the love and grace of God can
give us contentment and true joy through knowing
that we will live
eternally with Him
because of what Jesus did for us.
Enjoy the beauty of this
earth and things available today but also look
forward to God's promise and, - be
happy!!
