Conclusion of
Solomon? Live a Meaningful Life for
God
Bible Study Lesson from
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
12:13
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of
the matter:
Fear God and keep his
commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God will bring
every deed into judgment, including every hidden
thing, whether it is good or evil.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.
Commentary
by Bob Pardue
The Conclusion of
Ecclesiastes
Solomon concludes in
Ecclesiastes that we should "fear God and keep His
commandments". When all else in life fails, we have
this to lean on.
No Excuses
No matter what difficulties
we face; no matter who is against us; real or
imagined; no matter what the circumstances; we will
not be able to use these as an excuse when we stand
before God in judgment in the end.
Every person will be judged by
his or her responses in life whether they be good
or evil.
Joy and Happiness at What
Price?
Solomon recognized that we
should find joy in this life from meaningful work
to taking a family vacation - but not at the
expense of ignoring what God has in store for us.
He knows our hearts and our motives behind every
endeavor so we might be able to hide from other
people, but not from God.
A Quick
Questionnaire
I have personally asked
myself these questions and I will ask you;
- Have you committed
your life to God in your plan for today and
tomorrow?
- Are you measuring up
to His standards?
Don't answer me but ask these
questions quietly while you are alone; then ask God
what the answer is. Be honest because God already
knows your answers to these questions.
Standing Before
God
As we are at the conclusion
of the final chapters in the Book of Ecclesiastes
here are some profound words of wisdom quoted from
the Life Application Study Bible
...
"All people will have to
stand before God and be judged for what they did in
this life. We will not be able to use life's
inconsistencies as an excuse for failing to live
properly.
To live properly, we need
to ....
- recognize that human
effort apart from God is futile;
- put God
first--now;
- receive everything
good as a gift from God;
- realize that God will
judge both evil and good;
- know that God will
judge the quality of every person's
life."
We spend our entire lives
setting goals for ourselves to accumulate "things"
in order to have a better and richer life. We
believe that these so-called riches will make us
happy but we discover they don't when all is said
and done.
"Things" Will Not
Last
Everything on this earth we
can buy and own will either fade, rust or be
discarded when we see the next great "thing" that
we can achieve or own. Is this happiness? Do you
find yourself rushing after the things of this life
as I sometimes do?
Finally
...
Isn't it astonishing that we
can spend an entire lifetime searching for
something to fill the void in our lives and paying
for joy in life when we can receive it from God --
for FREE?
The End and
Amen
