Ecclesiastes

How to
Pray
-
5:1
Guard your steps when you go to the house of
God.
Go near to listen rather
than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not
know that they do wrong.
2
Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your
heart
to utter anything before
God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
3
As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the
speech of a fool when there are many
words.
This
is the Word of the Lord ... It is meant to change
the way that we think, and the way that we live.
Commentary

Listen to God
in Prayer
When Solomon says to "guard
your steps," he means to proceed with caution and
reverence when we approach God in
prayer.
One of the best ways I have
found to pray is to first try to clear my mind of
the many distractions of the day. This helps my
mind to be clearer when talking to God.
My best time is morning when
things are quiet around my house. Yours may be
different but pick a place of privacy so that you
can concentrate on your prayer to God.
Always remember that He is
the Almighty and all-knowing so we shouldn't think
that we can dictate to Him what we believe He
should do --- Listen and be in awe of God.
Use Jesus' prayer as a guide.
Here is the version from the King James
Bible.
"Our Father which
art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy
name.
Thy kingdom
come,
Thy will be
done
In earth, as it is in
heaven.
Give us this
day
Our daily
bread.
And forgive us our
debts,
As we forgive our
debtors.
And lead us not into
temptation,
But deliver us from
evil:
For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for
ever.
Amen."
