The First Christmas As we celebrate the holiday season with the putting up of decorations and going out to cut or by a living tree for the living room, let's take a moment of pause to reflect on what Christmas is all about. Noel is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and is set on the date of December 25th. People normally begin decorating sometime after Thanksgiving (in America ) and then down come all the favors after New Year's Day. But, as much fun and excitement these things bring, there is nothing more important than the real meaning of Christmas. It is a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord. The story you are about to read above tells how Mary, a virgin, becomes pregnant through the Holy Spirit and the journey she and Joseph take to change the world forever. He is called Emanuel which means God with us and, as John states in verse one; "the Word became flesh". So, have fun, buy holiday presents for your friends and family and enjoy their fellowship at the annual gathering but never forget that first Christmas. Read the story each year as a reminder that Jesus was born, died and lived again so that we might be forgiven of sin and eternal death. What a gift He gave! -Bob
