The Christmas and the Holiday season is always a special time of year for Christians as well as non-Christians.

Before buying your Christmas presents for your child this year, take a moment to think about the needy children who want nothing more than a decent meal for their holiday.

There has been much controversy over whether retail stores, schools, and other organizations should ban the use of Merry Christmas but I sincerely hope that does not happen.

Not that I am against Christmas remaining a holiday for all to enjoy but my question is; If we are not celebrating Christmas and the birth of Christ, then what holiday are we celebrating?

No matter what your views or how you feel, I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas !!!

Taking Care of Children in Need

We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Think of Needy Children all Year Long - Not just at Christmas Time

When most people think of needy children, what comes to mind is a passing thought at Christmas time that's not particularly beneficial. But there's a lot more to caring for needy children than just the basics.

We all have our pet charities that we love, and we find time to give them what we can in the way of help and donations. One popular type of charity is one that helps children in need. Children are innocent, and often born into situations that are not the best, but their parents do what they can. This means that the kindness of strangers can mean the difference between starving and having a good meal, or may mean that Christmas is a happy time instead of filled with disappointment.

I trust that what you've read so far has been informative and has given you some ideas about the needy children in our world. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty you might have.

Needy Children Cannot Help Themselves

Most people are touched by children in need because they know the child did nothing to get themselves into their predicament.

They can’t help how they were born, or who they were born to.

It's not that parents are basically bad, although some are. But, other people with children just have bad luck, and they do the best they can with what they have. Sometimes, that is just not enough. Children in need are always grateful, and perhaps that is why so many support those causes as well. Most communities have many programs for children, and they make up the majority of charities that most give to each year.

During the Christmas season, one charity for kids in need is Toys For Tots. Each year, stores and volunteers collect unopened toys to give to children in need in the immediate area.

Another very worthwhile organization to check out was founded by the son of Billy Graham. The son, Franklin Graham has helped literally millions of families, not just a Christmas, but all year long.

Each holiday season, the people of our church help to sponsor Samaritian's Purse. We put together shoe boxes with items and toys for children in need for Christmas. It's a great feeling and many times the whole family gets involved in carefully shopping for things to go into the box.

For over 35 years, Samaritan's Purse has had the vision to come to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering. They have impacted the lives of needy children and helped wherever help was needed. You can view all the info about Samaritan's Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org

No child should be without presents during the holidays, and this is one that always touches me. It might not be as important as putting food on the table, but giving a child joy is something that should be special to everyone. They are always so grateful, even when they have little to be grateful for.

Here is another thought about helping children in need. How about making a decision this Christmas to actually sponsor a child for the year (or longer). Christian Children's Fund has an excellent reputation for most of the money given going to directly helping the child in need. If you find it in your heart to give the gift of sponsorship to a child, you can find all the information about the Christian Children's Fund at www.christianchildrensfund.org

When checking out other charities for children in need, do a little research. If it is a well known charity, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Your money, however, is best spent going to a charity that does not take a lot off the top for administrative purposes. Some money has to go to this, but it should not be a lot of it.

If you aren’t happy with the percentages, you are free to give your money to someone else. Any of your local churches will gladly take donations and make sure your money for needy children will be put to good use. There are plenty of children in need out there, and plenty of charities that will help them. You can feel free to find the right one so you know the money is going where it should be going.

As your knowledge about taking care of needy children continues to grow, you will begin to see that children all over the world need your spiritual and financial support.

So, contact one of the charities above or just find a child in need to give to in your own town or city. God asked us to love and take care of each other so this is one small step in the right direction. Merry Christmas!!
